Tim McGraw had a scary moment on stage Thursday night, but the country legend proved exactly why he’s been doing this for more than 30 years.
While performing his signature hit “I Like It, I Love It” at Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center, McGraw took a nasty spill after stepping backward onto a raised platform at the front of the stage. As he moved to get closer to the crowd, the heel of his boot appeared to catch on a hole or gap in the platform, sending the 59-year-old crashing flat onto his back.
It looked like a painful fall, but McGraw’s recovery was just as impressive.
The crowd briefly gasped before the three-time Grammy winner popped right back up, walked over to inspect the spot that took him down and laughed it off.
“There’s a hole there,” he joked, pointing out the culprit before jumping right back into the song as if nothing had happened.
For a moment, he let the crowd handle the lyrics while he gathered himself, but it didn’t take long before he was back in full performance mode. Later in the song, McGraw even approached another raised platform a little more cautiously, making sure there weren’t any more surprises waiting for him.
Videos of the tumble quickly made the rounds online, with fans applauding the country star for handling the mishap like a true professional.
“Just like a pro! You got right back up and kept on singing,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Hope nothing’s hurt except your pride.”
The fall came during what McGraw admitted was already an eventful night. His concert started about 40 minutes later than scheduled after travel and weather delays slowed his arrival. When he finally hit the stage, he greeted the crowd with a relieved, “I made it!” before apologizing for the late start.
Any frustration from the delay quickly faded once the music started.
McGraw treated fans to a career-spanning set packed with the songs that have made him one of country music’s biggest stars. One of the night’s highlights came during an acoustic set when he dusted off “My Best Friend,” revealing he hadn’t performed it in quite some time but decided to bring it back after a request from his wife, Faith Hill. Accompanied by photos and videos of the couple through the years, the performance became one of the night’s most emotional moments. He also delivered fan favorites like “Don’t Take the Girl” and, of course, “Live Like You Were Dying.”
As for the fall, McGraw hasn’t commented publicly, but judging by how quickly he bounced back, it appears he escaped without any serious injuries—though he might be feeling it the next morning.
The Cincinnati stop is part of McGraw’s 2026 Pawn Shop Guitar Tour, which continues through September with special guests The Chicks, Lady A, 49 Winchester and Timothy Wayne appearing on select dates. Once the tour wraps on September 26, McGraw will head to Las Vegas for a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, running from October 23 through November 7.
If nothing else, Thursday night’s show proved one thing: Tim McGraw can still take a hit, laugh it off, and keep the party going.
