Riley Green is honoring late country star Toby Keith with his new song “Think As You Drunk,” a fun, honky-tonk track that tips its hat to Keith’s 2005 hit “As Good As I Once Was.” The song follows a guy trying — unsuccessfully — to convince a bartender he’s sober enough for one more drink.
Green, who has often performed Toby Keith songs in concert, co-wrote the track with Erik Dylan, Jessi Alexander, and Wyatt McCubbin. Because the song borrows from “As Good As I Once Was,” Keith and longtime collaborator Scotty Emerick are also credited as co-writers.
The tribute becomes even more meaningful at the end of the song, when Toby Keith’s voice is featured singing the famous line, “I may not be as good as I once was, but I’m as good once, as I ever was.”
With its playful lyrics and classic country sound, “Think As You Drunk” shows Green’s admiration for Keith while also celebrating the style of early 2000s country music that helped make Keith a star.
