The long-delayed first meeting of long distance friends Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jelly Roll just happened, and it was full of the feels. The two connected nearly ten years ago when Johnson, at a low point in his life, heard Jelly Roll’s “Only” and it was exactly the song he needed at that moment. He reached out to the singer (this was a couple years before Jelly became the superstar he is), saying “Brother, you have never met me, I’ve never met you, but I just heard a song from you and it really f****** rocked me. I’m going through some s*** and I just want you to know that this song means a lot to me. And I look forward to meeting you one day.” That day has finally happened.
In a video the actor posted to his Instagram, he visited “American Idol” and stopped by Jelly’s tour bus. After exchanging affectionate hugs, the actor gave Jelly a gift: a post card of the Nashville hotel where he lived as a teen. Coincidentally this wasn’t far from Jelly’s childhood home in south Nashville.
- A side note: one of the first things Johnson asked the singer when he got off the bus was how much weight he’d lost. Breaking news…Jelly said he’s lost 200 pounds (!), adding “Still got 100 to go.” See the video (CAREFUL! NSFW LANGUAGE!)
