Carly Pearce played a concert in St. Louis, Missouri Friday night, but it would be understandable if not everyone’s mind was on the music or having a great time. Earlier in the day, Missouri college student Riley Strain was found dead in the Cumberland River in Nashville, after being reported missing more than a week earlier. It was obviously on Carly’s mind as well, as she stopped the concert at one point to mention the tragedy.
“I do not feel like I can live in Nashville and be in the state of Missouri tonight, and not say that we love you Riley Strain. I just wanna say that I’m thinking of his family and I am thinking of his friends and anybody in this room that knows him….I wanna dedicate this to them.” She went on to perform “Every Little Thing,” the title track and lead single from her debut album.
- In related news, Nashville police have issued a statement saying Strain’s death was ruled “accidental,” with no evidence of foul play.
