For a lot of families, there are “must-watch” movies during any given holiday… So much so, that without watching them, it feels like we’ve missed out on the big day altogether!
Now, as a kid, my family didn’t harp on Halloween movies too much… Likely because my brother and I were too busy fiending over the candy!
But as an adult, I’ve been yearning to create some new traditions around the spookiest time of year.
Good Housekeeping was kind enough to sort out the 60 best Halloween movies for us all. And from that list, I chose my favorites that I just may have to start a new tradition with (spoiler: they’re all pretty cliché)…
Hocus Pocus: This one has honestly become a tradition for my mom and I over the last few years… And for good reason. According to streaming service, Vudu, it’s the most-watched Halloween movie of all time!
The Shining: Now I watched this movie way too young… And paid the price for it with nightmares for days. Don’t worry, though. As an adult, this Steven King classic has become my all-time favorite movie. It’s one of those films where each time you watch it, you’ll likely notice something new…
Beetlejuice: This is just a classic… And jam-packed with a star-studded cast. Heck, I’ve been known to throw this one on any time of the year when I want a good laugh!
Halloween (1978): Who wouldn’t want to watch “Halloween” on Halloween? While the Rob Zombie version, which came out in 2007, was gory and macabre enough to catch my attention, I remember girl crushing on Jamie Lee Curtis when I first saw the original… Plus, this movie pretty much defined Halloween!
The Nightmare Before Christmas: This one includes Christmas, so, duhhh it’s one of the best holiday movies! Plus I love all of the spooky songs and dancing the little claymation characters partake in…
What will you be watching this year and what are some of your Halloween movie traditions?
