Kacey Musgraves sparked widespread curiosity over the weekend after sharing a strange midair encounter involving unidentified flying objects during a flight from Fort Worth to Nashville.

According to the Grammy-winning singer, she and her manager witnessed multiple glowing, orange-hued orbs flying near their plane for roughly 45 minutes. Musgraves described the objects as moving in coordinated, triangular patterns and behaving unlike any known aircraft. “They were about 50,000 feet up… vehemently coming and going, forming triangle patterns,” she wrote on social media, adding that the lights appeared to follow the plane and even changed brightness, size, and direction.

She later posted low-quality footage of the encounter to her Instagram Stories, explaining it was captured on her phone. Despite the video’s limited clarity, it quickly caught the attention of both fans and UFO enthusiasts, fueling speculation about the nature of the mysterious lights.

Musgraves said the experience was unsettling enough to keep her from sleeping, calling it “the craziest… orb UFO experience.” The phenomenon reportedly began near the Little Rock area and continued all the way to Nashville. After landing, she and her manager asked the pilots if they had seen anything unusual. To their surprise, the pilots acknowledged the sighting and claimed such occurrences are relatively common, with similar orbs reportedly observed on other flights in different cities.

As the story gained traction online, UFO analyst Mick West offered a more grounded explanation. In a post on X, he suggested the lights were likely “Starlink horizon flares”—a known visual effect caused by sunlight reflecting off SpaceX’s Starlink satellites. According to West, the movement, brightness, and positioning of the lights in Musgraves’ video were consistent with this phenomenon, and he noted that the exact satellites could potentially be identified with precise timing data.

Musgraves, however, didn’t seem convinced by the explanation. She responded with humor, pushing back on the debunking while maintaining her openness to the unexplained. “S*** is weird, but I’m here for it,” she said, embracing the mystery rather than settling on a definitive answer.

Her experience arrives amid a broader cultural fascination with UFOs and unexplained aerial phenomena, adding another high-profile account to the ongoing conversation. Whether the lights were satellites or something more mysterious, Musgraves’ story has certainly captured the public’s imagination—earning her, once again, the nickname “Spacey Kacey.”
