Y106.5 - Today's Best Country

There are a few unfortunate—and oddly specific—moments that seem to earn country artists membership into unofficial “clubs.” There’s the dreaded tour bus fire club. The “fall on stage” club. And then there’s one that’s no joke at all: the “hit by a thrown object while performing” club.

Unfortunately, Riley Green is the latest artist to be inducted.

Green was performing in Melbourne, Australia over the weekend when a fan hurled a phone toward the stage, striking him near the ear. The impact caused a visible injury, with blood running down his neck as the show came to a sudden pause. Stagehands quickly stepped in with a towel while security removed the individual responsible from the venue.

While it may sound like a one-off incident, it’s part of a growing and dangerous trend at live shows. Artists across genres have dealt with similar situations, including Bebe Rexha, who was seriously injured in a separate incident involving a thrown phone.

Despite the scare, Green handled the situation like a pro. After a brief break, he returned to the stage and continued the show, not letting the incident derail the night for fans.

Later, he shared photos of the injury on social media, revealing that the hit resulted in five stitches. Video from the crowd has also surfaced, capturing the moment the phone was thrown, the swift removal of the culprit, and Green pushing through to finish his set.

It’s a wild reminder that while concerts are meant to be fun and high-energy, there’s a line that should never be crossed. For Green, it’s now another story to add to the road—but definitely not one any artist is hoping to experience firsthand.
