Ella Langley spent some quality time with “This Past Weekend with Theo Von,” when she told the story of how sticking to her guns while she was still a relative unknown led to a massive hit record. To hear her tell it, Ella’s record label was unhappy with one song on her debut album – specifically the fact that she had lengthy spoken verses on it. “Everyone told me that song was not gonna work… After we cut it, they were like, ‘We really think you need to sing these verses.’ I was like, ‘I’m not singing it…’ I just fought them really hard on it.” That song, of course, was her breakout single with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me,” which would hit #1 and go triple platinum. Ella was 22 at the time, but believed in the song when the so-called “experts” didn’t…which is why, two years later, she’s a superstar.
