What better way to celebrate an Olympic victory than with a Toby Keith sing-along? That’s exactly what the U.S. men’s hockey team did after capturing gold in a thrilling 2–1 overtime win over Canada on Sunday, February 22.
Earlier this month, America’s top athletes traveled to Milan, Italy, to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Ahead of the closing ceremony, the men’s hockey team outlasted their longtime rivals to secure the program’s first gold medal since the legendary 1980 “Miracle on Ice” victory.
Almost immediately after the win, video footage began circulating on social media showing the ecstatic players celebrating in their locker room. With music blasting, the team jumped up and down and sang every word of Toby Keith’s 2002 anthem, “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” proudly embracing the patriotic moment.
The powerful lyrics echoed through the room as Keith’s unmistakable voice filled the speakers, creating a scene that perfectly captured the emotion of the historic victory.
The celebration also carried deeper meaning for many fans. Toby Keith, a 14-time ACM Award winner, was known for his unwavering support of the U.S. military, completing 11 USO tours and performing for more than 230,000 service members throughout his career. Many believed he would have been smiling proudly at the team’s tribute.
“Toby Keith would’ve loved to see USA win gold in women’s and men’s hockey,” one fan wrote on social media.
The men’s victory completed a remarkable Olympic sweep for U.S. hockey. Just days earlier, the women’s team also defeated Canada 2–1 in overtime to claim gold, making it a perfect finish for American hockey in Milan.
From overtime heroics to a heartfelt locker-room sing-along, it was a moment that blended sports, patriotism, and music into one unforgettable celebration.
