Chase Matthew and his crew brought Keith Urban to tears with a “thank you” gift. Backstage, Chase thanked Keith for bringing him out on tour, and presented a video for Urban to watch. On the screen was Māori cultural artist Sam Mangakahia. Addressing Keith directly, Sam said, “I thought I’d give a bit of background on the artist behind this gift that your friends put together for you that I’m very excited to share more about. Again, Sam from the North Shore of Oahu. I actually grew up in Brisbane, Australia, and I’ve been out here for 10 years. It’s incredible. I’m a cultural artist and I tell stories through design that empower people to live true to their values. And this piece, I’ve titled ‘The Rise of Phoenix.'” Sam then showed a piece of art that he designed specifically with Keith Urban and his life’s journey in mind. When the video concluded, Chase presented Keith with a guitar case, which held a Gibson guitar embossed with the art Sam had shown in the video. Urban was obviously choked up; the two hugged, and Keith thanked Chase and his band for the gift and for “bringing it every night.” See the emotional clip below
