Jelly Roll’s trip to Australia has been a huge success — not only are his performances absolutely killing it, but he also got to spend some quality time with the country’s famous wildlife. So yeah, he’s doing just fine.
During a visit to a wildlife sanctuary, the singer met a few adorable Australian animals, including a wombat and a koala. But it was a newborn quokka (pronounced KWAH-kuh) that completely stole his heart. Overwhelmed with excitement, Jelly laughed, “I am fixing to faint. This might be the greatest day of my whole life.”
He even FaceTimed his wife, Bunnie Xo, for help naming the tiny marsupial. Bunnie suggested something country, and together they landed on “Loretta,” a sweet nod to country legend Loretta Lynn. To seal the deal, Jelly serenaded the baby quokka with a snippet of “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Jelly and Bunnie, both longtime animal lovers, joked about adopting more wildlife. “We could start rescuing quokkas,” Jelly said. “What do they cost? I’ll buy Loretta right now.”
To top it all off, Jelly already has a quokka tattoo, a symbol of his admiration for what he calls the “happiest animal on Earth.” He’s said that their cheerful, carefree nature inspires him — a reminder to embrace joy wherever life takes you.
