Thomas Rhett’s family is growing — again! The country music star and his wife, Lauren Akins, announced they are expecting their fifth child, sharing the joyful news in a sweet Instagram video on Tuesday, August 26.
In the heartwarming clip, Lauren asks Rhett, “Are you ready?” before stepping into the frame to join him as he strums his guitar. Together, they rework the lyrics to his 2018 hit “Life Changes” to reflect their growing family.
“Well, I was wrapping my head around being a dad / A bigger wrench got thrown in the plans we thought we had / Now Lauren’s showing and got one on the way / Yeah, that’s five under 10, hey what can I say? Yeah, life changes,” he sings, pausing to smile at Lauren, who proudly displays ultrasound photos.
In the caption, Rhett wrote, “Here we go again! We’ve got some really excited big sisters in our house. God is so good.”
The couple — who famously met in elementary school — are already parents to four daughters: Willa Gray (9), Ada James (8), Lennon Love (5), and Lillie Carolina (3). Their growing household is one Rhett affectionately describes as “beautiful chaos.”
“It’s changed my life,” he said in an interview “There are days where it’s like, ‘Good Lord, at what time are we going to bed?’ But as they’re getting older, it’s been the biggest blessing in my life.”
Despite the whirlwind of parenting four young girls, Rhett beams with pride. “My girls have taught me so much patience and how to love better,” he said. “They’ve softened my heart in so many ways. I love my girls more than anything in the world.”
The baby news arrives during a high point in Rhett’s career. His single “After All the Bars Are Closed” is enjoying a third week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. In July, he headlined a sold-out show at Fenway Park as part of his Better in Boots tour, with more dates running through October.
With 21 No. 1 hits, multiple Grammy and ACM nominations, and five CMA Triple Play awards under his belt, Rhett’s professional success mirrors the joy and fulfillment he’s found at home.
Now, with baby number five on the way, it’s safe to say: life changes — and the Rhetts couldn’t be happier.
