Y106.5 - Today's Best Country

When you’re young, convinced you have what it takes but can’t seem to get from here to there, you grasp at straws. Lainey Wilson knows that all to well. As a talented 18-year-old singer and songwriter looking to make that leap from Louisiana girl to Nashville star, she reached out to a person she thought could relate to her situation: Tim McGraw. Part of the “Lainey Wilson: Tough As Nails” exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame is a letter she wrote to McGraw when she was in her first year of college and studying to be a nurse. “Dear Mr. Tim McGraw. My name is Lainey Wilson from Franklin Parish, Baskin, LA. I am 18 years old and have just entered my first semester at La. Delta Community College of Monroe to pursue a nursing degree. I have been writing songs since I was nine years old.” She went on to point out they were from the same home town, and that her grandfather used to support Tim before he made it big. She closed the letter with, “Singing, writing and performing are the most important things in my life. All I need is the opportunity; I can do the rest.” That was 15 years ago; Wilson says she’s still never met Tim McGraw, but she did manage to leave nursing in her rear view mirror. See Lainey read her letter to Tim McGraw and see parts of her exhibit in the videos below.
