Zach Top is still getting the hang of some of the more unexpected moments that come with life on the road — like mid-concert gender reveals.

Over the weekend at the West Virginia State Fair, Zach found himself in the middle of his first-ever on-stage gender reveal, and let’s just say… things didn’t go quite as planned.

During his set, a couple down front caught his attention and handed him a folded piece of paper. They were hoping he’d reveal the gender of their baby in front of the crowd. Always eager to connect with fans, Zach took the paper, stepped up to the mic — and immediately spoiled the surprise. Holding the page up to read it, he didn’t realize the words “It’s a girl!” were clearly visible on the back for the entire audience to see.

The crowd reacted instantly, and Zach quickly realized what happened. “I messed that up,” he said, before trying to salvage the moment. “If you didn’t see it… IT’S A GIRL. Congratulations, Kelsey and Dalton, you’re having a baby girl!”

He admitted to the crowd, “I botched it a little bit,” explaining it was the first time he’d ever done something like this during a show. Still, the audience erupted in cheers, and the couple got a special meet-and-greet backstage after the performance — plus a keepsake, as Zach signed the reveal paper for them.

Though the moment didn’t unfold exactly as planned, it was still a memorable (and hilarious) highlight of the night — and one of the more talked-about moments from Top’s Cold Beer & Country Music Tour, which continues across the country this fall.
