To sing from the stage at the Grand Ole Opry is a memorable career moment for any country artist, but last week Cody Johnson made it a memorable daddy daughter moment. When Cody played the Opry last Thursday, he gave his two girls the opportunity to get up on stage with dad – and not just to make a cameo. They brought microphones and their adorable little voices!
After singing a couple of his own hits, he brought 8-year old Clara Mae and 5-year-old Cori out on stage to with him. The girls were fantastic! First they provided harmonies for daddy on an old cowboy classic: “My Rifle, My Pony And Me.” The girls then took the lead on the next verse and the performance was terrific and is something they are all sure to remember for ever.
The tune they chose to do was from the 1959 John Wayne movie “Rio Bravo.” In the film, the song was sung by Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson, but the girls (and dad) crushed their updated version, earning a standing ovation from the Opry crowd. Cody said he and the girls have been watching a lot of old westerns and his daughters “think John Wayne hung the moon.”
