Anyone who follows Maren Morris’ music or social pages wouldn’t likely be surprised by the news… But, it is shocking, nonetheless…
Maren Morris confirmed intuitions everywhere on Friday when an interview with the LA Times was published, along with a couple new singles, “The Tree” and “Get The Hell Out Of Here”.
“I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over,” she said of the genre in the interview, “But it’s burning itself down without my help.”
She also noted feeling “very distanced” from the genre and music format, saying, “I had to take a step back. The way I grew up was so wrapped in country music, and the way I write songs is very lyrically structured in the Nashville way of doing things. But I think I needed to purposely focus on just making good music and not so much on how we’ll market it. The last few records, that’s always been in the back of my mind: Will this work in the country music universe?”
Hmmmm… Maybe all those tiffs with the Aldeans finally got to her? While all of her political arguments with fellow artists seems to be the easy blame point, she’s always had quite a “poppy” sound anyhow…
