WATCH: Kelsea Ballerini Bursts Into Tears as She Joins Kenny Chesney On Stage for “Half of My Hometown”

By Joe Malone Jun 2, 2022 | 11:52 AM

Kenny Chesney was in Nashville over the weekend to play his show and gave fans a nice surprise. He brought Kelsea Ballerini on stage to sing with him.  They performed their song “Half of My Hometown.”

He told the crowd before they sang, “I grew up in East Tennessee, and she grew up in East Tennessee. We drove down some of the same roads together. We went to a lot of the same places to eat with our families. We listened to the same radio station, and listened to a lot of people tell us we couldn’t do certain things that have dreamed of all our life. I came this town with a head full of dreams and a heart full of music,” he continued before welcoming Ballerini out onto the stage to perform their collaborative single. “When I heard this next song, this person and this song truly validated my dream and I’m very proud to stand up here,” he said. “We shared a No. 1 record and we have yet to celebrate it, so we get to celebrate in Nashville here at Nissan [Stadium] tonight.”

It was such a powerful moment that Kelsea broke down during the second verse of the performance. Ballerini later shared her joy in the moment with a post on Instagram she captioned

“half of our hometown
was in the crowd
they knew the words
they sang them loud

a night i’ll never forget with my hometown hero @kennychesney”

Kenny also posted on his Instagram about the duet with this caption. “The Nashville show was so special for me on so many levels. Sharing the stage with @kelseaballerini was one of my favorite shared musical moments in a very long time. Thank you Kelsea. I’m proud of you!! #HereAndNowTour #KCNashville
